Lizzie ~ 9 Years ~ Pekingese
Special Needs

Meet Lizzie!  This pretty lady was sadly abandoned in her time of greatest need. Shortly after her arrival we noted concerns around her frequent peeing and hair loss. A thorough vet exam revealed that Lizzie is living with Cushings Disease.  Cushings a serious health condition in dogs that occurs when the adrenal glands overproduce cortisol (cortisone) in the animal's body. At this time it is being well-managed with one pill a day which has also reduced the amount of urine she is passing. Currently Lizzie can sleep through the night without having to pee, and can go several days without an accident. When she is left alone, her Foster Mom does put a diaper on her just to be safe.

Lizzie is currently living with both dogs and a cat without issue.  She is cuddly and affectionate with her humans and loves the opportunity to enjoy a good snuggle. Short daily walks are her favourite and she also enjoys car rides. She is not a mischievous dog, and prefers to be with her people, so her ideal home would be one where she is not left alone for long periods of time.

As a special needs dog, we want to ensure Lizzie has a comfortable life, and we will be willing to consider supporting her by providing her meds for the remainder of her lifespan if that expense is a barrier to finding her a home where she can live her remaining years knowing love and security.
