Hemingway ~ 12 Years Old ~ Shetland Sheepdog X

Meet Hemingway! This adorable little senior will definitely steal your heart! Hemingway came to us with a cherry eye and advanced oral health disease and as a result he needed surgery including a full mouth extraction from which he is healing beautifully. Because of this, he will need a softer diet, and is currently eating moistened kibble mixed with wet food and also enjoys soft treats.

Hemingway is currently sharing his foster home with both dogs and a cat, and has quickly befriended all. While he may enjoy the companionship of another pet in his forever home, he would also be fine as the single animal as he does enjoy soaking up lots of attention from his humans.

When Hemingway first arrived, he did not seem to be housetrained, however with patience and consistency, he has quickly mastered his daily routine and there have been no recent accidents. It is important however, to understand that he may regress in this area while adjusting to a new home, so it will be important for his forever family to re-establish a consistent routine for him. On his own, Hemingway shows no signs of separation anxiety and has not needed a crate and though he does sleep in his own bed, if he had his way, he would prefer to sleep snuggled up next to his person. He is a real cuddle-bug!

Hemingway loves everyone he meets, and is quick to show affection and trust. Given his age, we do feel a quieter home would be most ideal, where he just relax and enjoy his golden years. He would make a wonderful companion for a retiree or active senior who can manage a couple of short walks a day. He is a well-manned, happy dog who would make a delightful addition to the right home!
